The Al Seeb Legacy

Four decades of building in the UAE — and the conviction that luxury is found in patience, not spectacle.

When J.P. Kalwani first arrived in the United Arab Emirates in the early 1980s, the Dubai skyline was a fraction of what it would become. The sand-coloured low-rises along the Creek bore little resemblance to the glass towers that now define Sheikh Zayed Road. But Kalwani, whose family roots trace to Ajmer in Rajasthan, saw something that many did not: a city that would reward those who built with patience and purpose.

Over the following four decades, the Kalwani family established the Al Safeer Group as one of the UAE’s most diversified private conglomerates. The portfolio grew methodically — first in retail with the Safeer Market chain, which became a household name across the Northern Emirates, then in hospitality with the Barceló Hotel Al Jaddaf and the Four Points by Sheraton IMPZ, and in strategic land holdings across Dubai and Sharjah.

The lesson that defined the Group’s approach was simple: build for the long term. While Dubai’s real estate market cycled through booms and corrections, Al Safeer remained privately held, debt-conservative, and focused on quality over speed. Hotels were operated under international brand standards. Retail spaces were maintained to a standard that earned community trust. Land was acquired and held, not flipped.

When the opportunity arose to develop the world’s first standalone branded residence under The Chedi name, it was not a pivot — it was a culmination. Four decades of managing five-star hospitality operations, of understanding the difference between a building and a home, of knowing what it takes to maintain a branded promise over time — all of it pointed to this moment.

The Chedi Private Residences Sheikh Zayed Road is not the first project. It is the definitive one — 117 sky villas rising 53 floors, designed by Studio Bruno Guelaff, in partnership with GHM Hotels, on Dubai’s most iconic address. It is the Al Seeb legacy, built.
